A muffled groan escaped the creature's lips as his eyes blinked open into complete darkness. His head ached, his weak body lay sprawled and limp from the fall. Pressing his hands firmly on the hard soil, he attempted to pry himself from his ditch. The first attempt resulted in failure and a swift blow to the stomach.
Gaining air back in his lungs, he struggled for a second attempt. This time his feet managed to set flatly on the ground. For a moment he was unstable, but quickly caught his balance. With small, clumsy steps, he started making his way through the black jungle where he had fallen.
